He’s off again!
Bob
McMillan
Why do you look so strangely at me,
when I say I remember how things used to be?
Why do you
say "He's off again!"
When I try to recall what memories remain?
Would you just have me sit and say now't,
or can I show something of what life's all about?
The things I remember though cloudy and slow,
are things you can't learn of from others you know
I can't stop you making mistakes of your own,
but I can help you avoid - disasters I've know.
But only when you listen, I know I go on,
but memory's not easy as the life's years all roll on!
So bear with me youngster, while I am still here.
For life's marching on and my end's surely near.
There'll be no one to ask and no record was made
Of our family forebears and the difference they made -
In this world you inherit by grace of those dead
It's only kept here, in my snowy topped head.
So listen and remember, so you can retell
Just where you came from to YOUR children as well.
