The local studies library provides information on all aspects of the social, political and industrial history of Airdrie and the surrounding area. The library holds a range of materials including the Monklands Map collection, The Monklands photographic collection, family history sources and local newspapers dating back to 1847. Other facilities within the room include microfilm readers with a print capability, microfiche readers and photocopier. This material may be requested for study purposes.

The collection is available for reference purposes to all members of the public free of charge. Staff will undertake written enquiries on behalf of researchers unable to visit the centre. The first half hour of staff time is free of charge; thereafter a fee of £10 per hour is charged (fee subject to annual review).
