Strathclyde Country Park

Strathclyde Country Park is a leading Scottish centre for outdoor recreation. Close to the industrial centres of Scotland, the Park lies in 400ha of countryside in the valley of the River Clyde, between Junctions 5 and 6 of the M74 Motorway. Mature woodlands, rough wetlands, wildlife refuges and neat open parkland all surround Strathclyde Loch, the focal point for many of the park activities. Strathclyde Country Park is firmly established as one of Scotland's leading centres for outdoor recreation.  Access is on the A725 or A73. 

For the enthusiast the main water activities that the park caters for include: Rowing, Windsurfing, Dinghy sailing, Canoeing, Water Ski-ing.  Craft are available for hire or you can bring your own.

For fun there are Rowing Boats, Bumper Boats, Wave Boats, Boat Trips, Canadian Canoes. 

Land Sports are served by a well equipped sports pavilion - the park caters for: Football, Hockey, Jogging, Horse Riding, Coarse Angling, Wayfaring, Orienteering, Cross Country Running,  (Angling on day permits )

There is a Caravan & Camping Site (a 5 tick site) with over 200 pitches - providing accommodation for touring caravans and tents.

Footpath & Nature Trails with miles of footpaths through dense woodlands, wetlands, and open parkland - plus the long distance Clyde Walkway Scheme.

Historical Features including Bothwellhaugh, a Roman Fort & Bathhouse, Orbiston Tower House and the Site of the Battle of Bothwell Bridge.

Wildlife Refuges provide breeding sites and refuge for more than 150 different species of wild animals and birds.

Guided Walks are provided all year round by members of the Park ranger Service.

The park is also home to Scotland's first theme park M & Ds -   It has now over 48 major rides and attractions - including a series of daredevil rides and roller-coasters.  M&Ds is open from March to November - opening times varies - - they ask you to call for details.   

The park is well served with Playgrounds - Sandy Beaches - Refreshment Kiosks    For those who like their comfort there is Strathclyde Park Inn - an Inkeepers Fayre Family Restaurant and Holiday Inn Express for overnight accommodation
