n Scotland on the 26th of March 2006 it became law that there will be no more smoking in pubs and public places. This was written in anticipation! by Tam Craven

WAN LAST PUFF

“Where have all the ashtrays gone?”

Said the smoker to the barman

“they have all left wi’ the smokers

In the big black sedan”

“you mean tae say there’s nae smokin’

In a’ the pubs ‘n’ clubs ‘n’ bars”

That’s right ma friend, no’ even oan buses

Or private motor cars

“whit’s this world comin’ tae

When in the pub ye canny smoke”

“well, yiv got tae look efter yir health sir

That smokin’ wid make ye boak”

“ach well, gies a pint a heavy

But am desperate fur a fag”

“och it’s a’ in the mind sir, here

Put yir ciggies in this bin bag”

“wud ye let me huv wan last puff

Fur the sake of auld lang syne”

“well alright sir, but just remember

It’s your life as well as mine”
