Loss of a loved one

It hurts to look across the room

And not see that "weel kent" face

A loved one lost, a life long friend,

No longer in their place.

The hurt for them is over now,

No longer worldly ill.

But we, still left, must bear the pain,

The loss that lingers still.

But time is a strange and soothing balm

It can ease the hurt away.

The loss will fade, though t'will never go,

While the good and the love will stay.

So when you're  feeling very low,

When its hard to raise a smile,

Just pause and think of the good you had

With your loved one for a while.

Then treasure more the gifts you have

Of life, and love, and say :-

"thank you for fond memories,

They give me strength to face the day".
