GOLDEN DAYS in Airdrie

POLITICAL campaigners in Glasgow could be banned from using lampposts and other "street furniture" to display election posters under plans being considered by councillors.  Thousands of posters appear in the run-up to local and national elections, with some remaining in place after voters have gone to the polls.
The situation is mirrored in towns and cities across the country, but now councillors in Glasgow are looking at outlawing the practice as part of their Clean Glasgow campaign.

How about doing the same in North Lanarkshire?

PS - As part of the Clean Glasgow Campaign - how about clearing the litter on Glasgow approach roads - e.g. from Bargeddie to Baillieston.  Not only is it a bad advert for Glasgow but it looks disgusting!!

  • Anger at proposed car parking charges

POPULARITY was not being sought by North Lanarkshire?#8364;™s councillors when they announced that car parking charges would be introduced in town centres

Airdrie & Coatbridge will DIE if parking charges are introduced. The Council will collect £250,000 each year but our - already struggling -small traders will lose more than that - they will lose customers to the out of town shops - The Fort - The Forge - Silverburn etc etc
The towns NEED long-stay workers AND shoppers - we need the council to find ways of attracting customers into the local towns and keeping the towns alive. NOT ways of keeping shoppers out!! Remember -  It will be too late to learn from your mistakes - we will have lost all the small traders.

According to the Forum of Private Business - "Around the UK, many forward-thinking town halls have deliberately kept their parking charges down - or even kept parking free altogether - in order to boost trade. They have been rewarded with thriving town centres, full of varied and unique shops.

"We would urge the councils who are proposing to push up their parking prices to think again and follow this example instead."

"We regularly shopped in Coatbridge 2 or 3 times per week.  Since the Quadrant introduced parking charges we have only shopped in Coatbridge once - since March 2010.  Please NLC take a lesson from that!! "
