The Advocacy Project is an independent charitable organisation
which believes
everyone has the right to take part fully in society.
The organisation is based on the principles that any person has the
right to:
Be consulted about their needs
Be involved in the decisions which affect their lives
Be treated in a dignified manner and be valued as equals
Avoid being segregated from the rest of the community in any
aspect of life, such as work, recreation, or housing.
The Advocacy Project employs staff and volunteers to act as
independent advocates for people who have difficulty speaking up for
themselves, or making their voices heard. The advocates are well
trained and supported by the Project.
Independent Professional Advocacy- The advocate assists a number
of clients on a one to one basis, to represent their views on issues
important to the client
Citizen Advocacy- Volunteers trained to be citizen advocates, who
are partnered with a person to assist with longer term issues
Collective/Group Advocacy- Enabling individuals with common issues
to come together to discuss & pursue them, providing practical and
independent support
Ways in which an Advocate might help include:
helping you to fill in forms
enabling you to access advice on benefits or legal issues
accompanying you to meetings and supporting you in raising issues
assisting with difficult telephone calls
making sure you know your rights
So if you think you or someone close to you might benefit from
meeting with an advocate, or you have a few hours spare in the month
and would like to make a worthwhile and meaningful contribution to a
persons life, please contact our friendly team who will be happy to
answer any queries or questions you may have.
